Addiction Treatment We Provide at Our Bay Area Rehab Center
Creekside helps Bay Area residents with a full range of substance use disorders. Our medically supervised programs include treatment for alcohol, opioids (including fentanyl and heroin), methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepines, and kratom. We address both the immediate physical challenges of withdrawal and the deeper emotional and psychological work of recovery.
If you are looking specifically for alcohol or drug treatment in the Bay Area, we have dedicated pages with more detailed information:
Our Approach to Bay Area Addiction Treatment
At Creekside Recovery, we believe lasting recovery means addressing the whole person. This includes not just substance use, but also the emotional experiences, psychological patterns, and life circumstances that have played a role. Our holistic approach combines evidence-based clinical therapies with restorative, mind-body practices in a setting that supports healing at every level.
Our clinical team, which includes psychiatrists, therapists, and counselors, works with each resident to understand their full story and build a treatment plan that fits. That plan evolves as the individual progresses through treatment, always focused on their specific goals and needs.
Medically Supervised Detox
For residents who need to clear substances from their body before beginning the deeper work of rehab, Creekside provides medically supervised detoxification. Our team monitors every resident throughout the detox process, managing withdrawal safely and with appropriate clinical support. Medical supervision during detox is especially important for alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines, where withdrawal can carry serious medical risk.
Individual Therapy
Regular one-on-one therapy sessions with licensed therapists are at the heart of addiction treatment at Creekside. These sessions offer a private, focused space to address the emotional, psychological, and behavioral patterns behind addiction, and to develop the insight, skills, and self-understanding needed for long-term recovery.
Group Therapy
Led by trained therapists, group sessions offer peer connection, shared experience, and mutual support. The intimacy of our six-bed program means group therapy at Creekside is genuinely personal — not a room of strangers, but a small community where every person is known and every voice matters.
Art Therapy
Creative expression provides a non-verbal channel for processing emotional experiences that are difficult to access through conversation alone. Art therapy at Creekside gives residents tools to understand themselves and their recovery more fully through creative engagement.
Yoga and Meditation
Addiction disrupts the body’s nervous system, sleep rhythms, and capacity for calm. Regular yoga and guided meditation practice helps residents rebuild those capacities — creating the kind of self-awareness and emotional regulation that supports life in recovery long after treatment ends.
Equine Therapy
Working with horses in a structured therapeutic setting develops emotional awareness, presence, and interpersonal attunement in ways that complement traditional clinical approaches. Equine therapy is one of the experiences that makes Creekside distinctive among Bay Area rehab programs.
Outdoor Activities
Orinda’s natural setting provides direct access to hiking, nature walks, and outdoor therapeutic activities that support physical recovery, mental wellbeing, and the rebuilding of healthy daily rhythms. Time in nature is integrated into the treatment experience throughout the program.
Nutrition and Meals
Our on-site chef prepares fresh, nutritious meals throughout each resident’s stay. Proper nutrition during rehab supports the body’s recovery and the overall healing process — and is part of how we care for the whole person, not just the clinical aspects of their treatment.
Our Clinical Team
Addiction treatment at Creekside Recovery is delivered by a clinical team whose combined credentials span psychiatry, medicine, clinical social work, and specialized therapeutic practice. Every resident works directly with licensed clinicians from their first day of treatment through discharge.

Kate Hunter, LCSW Program Manager
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and East Bay native, Kate holds a Master of Social Work degree in Adult Mental Health and Wellness from the University of Southern California. Her clinical background spans inpatient psychiatry, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, individual therapy, and long-term residential care — reflecting the full continuum of addiction treatment that she brings to program management at Creekside.
Sara Appelbaum, LCSW Therapist
Sara is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing individual and group therapy for residents throughout their stay at Creekside. Her work supports residents in addressing the emotional and psychological dimensions of addiction and building the coping skills that sustain long-term recovery.
Eileen Nichols Executive Director

She has guided clients and families through every level of care — from detox through long-term support — and leads Creekside with a commitment to making recovery accessible and achievable for every person who walks through the door.
Why Creekside is a Different Kind of Bay Area Rehab Center
Six beds, not sixty. Our intentionally small program creates a treatment experience that is deeply personal. Your clinician knows you. Your therapist knows you. The other residents know you. That quality of connection and attention is at the heart of what makes Creekside different, and why our clients experience it as genuinely different from other Bay Area rehab programs.
JCAHO accreditation. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval is one of the most recognized and trusted quality standards in behavioral healthcare. Our accreditation reflects the clinical and safety standards that families and healthcare providers rely on when choosing addiction treatment for someone they care about.
DHCS licensed. Creekside Recovery is licensed by the California Department of Health Care Services (License #070058AP, expiring 01/31/2027) meeting California’s regulatory standards for residential addiction treatment.
